BAPE

 

A Bathing Ape (also known as Bape) was founded in 1993 by DJ Nigo! It was one of the street wear brands to originate in Japan. Nigo borrowed four million yen from an acquaintance, who also let him use his shop; he opened "Nowhere", his first store, on April 1, 1993 in Harajuku, Tokyo. Deciding to start his own brand, he named it after the 1968 film Planet of the Apes. According to Nigo, the name "BAPE" is a reference to "A Bathing Ape in Lukewarm Water". Bape was quite a underground brand and didn’t produce many clothes and not many people knew about the brand, until 2001 when they do a collaboration with Pepsi, and this got the word around and people started to recognise Bape! Nigo became friends with Pharrell Williams in 2003 and  Pharrell started to wear Bape, which meant loads of more people started to see it! This was a great chance for people all around the world to see Bape! Bape has released a lot of different lines all designed for a difference audience they have Mr Bathing Ape this features a lot of smarts clothing such as ties and suits, they have Baby Milo aimed at kids and they have Aape, Aape have a lot of graphic prints and it is a bit cheaper than Bape, its most likely aimed at people who like Bape but cant afford it.
